xi + 339 pp. Map endpapers, beautifully illustrated. Foreword by Harvard anthropologist Earnest Albert Hooten. Red cloth with black is worn, corners rubbed, spine bit sunned, interior owner bookplate, otherwise clean and unmarked. Aged but respectable. The author was an anthropologist who lived with his wife in the Moroccan Rif for a few years and studied the local Berbers. As the preface says, the book "is a literary by product of his intimate knowledge of these magnificent barbarians. Although it was written in story form, it is an authentic portrait of Riffian life." The author would go on to generate huge controversy with his racial theories. ; 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall

Page edges a little browned but again not much, the last few pages have a small nick at the bottom edge which looks as though it may have been original to the binding, otherwise clean and nice. A very attractive copy of a sentimental little Edwardian short fiction story, first printed in the Atlantic Monthly. ; 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall
