A detailed overview of medieval Hungarian book collectors (the title of the book means Old Hungarian Bibliophiles) from the age of King Lajos Nagy to that of King Lajos II. The 37 plates are at the end of the book (Kepmellekletek). Very scarce. Original paper wraps are chipped and bent at fore-edge, 1" loss at top corner, back fore-edge chipped with some loss as well. Interior paper is creamy and clean, edges are rough cut and are therefore chipped and bent along the fore-edges, but everything is present and without stains or marks. Very exciting find!; Limited Edition; 4to - over 9" - 12" tall

Interior has a flyer from the exhibition taped down to the inside front cover, another smaller one on the verso of the first free end paper, as well as a letter taped down on the recto of the ffep talking about the exhibition and an inscrip by the owner saying the book was purchased at the Christies King St exhibition. The catalog is 8.5" x 11", a quarto, in original grey card covers. Condition is good antiquarian. The boards are a little faded at edges, they have a few splotches and stains, along with contemporary notes, including the name "Sacha Guitry" filled in at the initials S. G. . Title page has another note, all the prices realized have been written in the margin. There is also a newspaper clipping (in French) saying that the two Goya portraits sold here sold for 22 million Francs. Most of the auction illustrations are black and white but there 4 tipped in color plates: the Van Gogh, the 2 Goya portraits, and the Chardin. The auction of the very important paintings and objets belonging to renowned French actor Sacha Guitry, sold on 23 May 1951 at Galerie Charpentier in Paris. Includes prices realized! The auction catalog of one of the great sales of literary treasures of the 20th century, featuring Shaakespeare's first folio, William Caxton's Higden" , Browning, Coverdale Bible, a 1497 Aesop Fabulae, many illuminated manuscripts, Lamb, Milton, Spenser, and many others, with black and white plates of many of the lots. The catalog has what appear to be PRICES REALIZED penned next to each lot in an old-fashioned hand. The catalog has been rebound in hardcover in black cloth with gilt spine, which is worn at the edges and tips. Hinges are splitting, occasional small smudge to a page, but otherwise quite clean. ; 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall
