Paris E. Maillet 1866 First Edition Paperback Fair
1st Thus. xxiii + 339 pp + errata. One folding plate. Entirely in French. Original gray paper covers are worn and faded, owner inscript, old marks of tape at top and bottom, front cover reattached, some chipping. Interior unmarked but quite foxed, especially the folding plate (the 2nd plate is not present). A bit fragile and worn but still usable and an original copy. Per Wiki: Louis de Beaufort (6 October 1703 - 11 August 1795) was a French historian. In 1738 he published at Utrecht this work, in which he showed what untrustworthy guides even the historians of highest repute, such as Livy and Dionysius of Halicarnassus, were for that period, and pointed out by what methods and by the aid of what documents truly scientific bases might be given to its history. This was an ingenious plea, bold for its time, against traditional history such as Rollin was writing at that very moment. Christopher Saxius, endeavoured to refute it in a series of articles Beaufort replied by some brief and ironic remarks in the appendix to the second edition of his Dissertation (1750).; 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall

15 Boak, Arthur E.R. And Youtie, Herbert Chayyim, Editors The Archive of Aurelius Isidorus in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo, and the University of Michigan (P.Cair.Isidor.)
Ann Arbor University of Michigan Press 1960 First Edition Thus Cloth Good with no dust jacket
478 pp + 7 Plates. Many indexes, table of papyri. Most of the papyri published in this volume were unearthed at Karanis during the winter of 1923. In 1924, Boak was engaged by the University of Michigan to relax the papyri and begin work on their decipherment. Publication of 62 of the texts was undertaken over the years. These are re-edited here together with 87 previously unpublished papyri. The texts start in the late 290s and concern various transactions undertaken both as a private citizen and as a public servant in the Graeco-Roman area of Karanis. Black cloth with gilt to spine is clean, corners are bumped, spine gilt bright, spine tips bit worn. Interior has old owner's inscription and book plate. Front inside cover has remains of old tape or glue where apparently a newspaper clipping or similar was laid down, some corresponding staining to the first blank. Otherwise clean and unmarked, normal wear and aging. Good copy. Heavy. ; 4to - over 9" - 12" tall
