While she was still a foal her mother was killed by lightning and La Bruja learnt early to fight for her existence and grew into a fierce, independent creature whose mixed parentage bequeathed her a strangely ugly face but wonderful fleetness of foot. In time, she became a legend among the gauchos, coveted for her speed, conspicuous for her ugliness, but cunning in her ways, and those who attempted to capture her had to fight against a deep hatred of man and her experience of their cruelty. ; B&W Illustrations; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 192 pages
